We are very excited to announce that, on 7th March, SGCO’s String Quartet, with Peter Graham (leader, first violin), Lucy Curnow (second violin), Dominic Moore (viola) and Anna Beryl (cello), will be playing Schubert’s magnificent Death and the Maiden.
Death and the Maiden was composed in 1824, as Schubert realised he was dying. It is his testament to death, and the intensity of his sentiments can be poignantly felt throughout the piece.
The March recital follows a sellout performance of the Brahms and Mozart Clarinet Quintet concert at Dulwich Picture Gallery last November with clarinettist Barry Graham.
The full programme is as below:
Beethoven String Quartet Op.18 no.5 in A
Shostakovich Elegy and Polka
Schubert Quartet No 14 in D Minor, ‘Death and the Maiden’ D 810
